Solidarity Youth: La Plata, Argentina
The chair 'Lenguaje Visual 3 [Visual Language 3]' of the National University of La Plata (UNLP, Spanish acronym) was awarded for the project "Solidarity Books" in the VIVALECTURA contest, held at the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires. It won second prize in the 'Society' category.
Since 2009, professors and students of the chair 'Visual Language 3' of the UNLP Faculty of Fine Arts have been working to combine the SL pedagogy with the arts. The project aims to produce children's books and audiovisual shorts that are donated to schools and community-based organizations. Different texts with free themes and genres for children, youths and adults are chosen each year to compile the repertoire used by the students to produce illustrated books in album format. Almost 5,000 donations have been made to date.
In 2021 they produced "Historia Golondrinas [swallow history]", their illustrated book, which highlights the different dates and significant anniversaries of service to the community, cooperation, plurality and art. It is an illustrated book-calendar produced to accompany the entire community that followed the project throughout the year.
"In 2019, we were selected as beneficiaries of the CLAYSS Art Programme, and so we were able to consider new strategies to strengthen and expand the project," said Carlos Pinto, head of the chair.
