Solidarity youths in Río Negro, Argentina
Since 2017, students from Secondary School No. 145 in Villa Regina, province of Río Negro, Argentina, have developed a service-learning project as part of their arts-oriented education. The project called "Te damos una mano de color [We give you a colourful hand]" aimed at helping students practise what they have learnt while serving their community. This year, the practice was carried out at the Barrio Este Health Centre and included students from Primary School No. 235.
Students and teachers first carried out a survey —interviewing neighbours and touring the area— to identify the real needs of the Health Centre. Afterwards, fourth- and fifth-year students planned the project and put it into action: they painted walls with themed murals, did cleaning work, built benches for the patients, and gave colour and warmth to the backyard, thus creating a new meeting space that makes waiting for treatment more pleasant.
