CLAYSS in Chile: University and community building the common good
From 17th to 23rd November, CLAYSS was present at the 4th Service-Learning Conference: "Universidad y comunidad construyendo bien común [University and community building the common good]" hosted by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. In this context, there was also an onsite meeting of the Latin American Hub of the Uniservitate Programme. CLAYSS team members travelled to the neighbouring country to participate in both events. They also went to different faculties of the University of Chile, where they learned about valuable SL projects and participated in several meetings with faculty members.
In addition, they visited the CDDoc, Centro de Desarrollo Docente [Teaching Development Centre], which coordinates pedagogical innovation and service-learning projects at the university. The team of the University of Chile generously shared with the Latin American delegation the training proposals of the CDDoc, especially the Diploma in University Teaching, and the multiple resources and mechanisms available to them concerning the promotion of the service-learning pedagogical proposal. In turn, the delegation took part in different discussions (early evaluation of courses, technical advice, SL implementation model at the university), a workshop on service-learning and field visits to celebrate the end of the SL courses.
Candelaria Ferrara, Regional Hubs Coordinator Uniservitate Programme, participated in the Conference for the service-learning community. María Rosa Tapia, coordinator of the Uniservitate Programme, and Angeles Soletic, CLAYSS Training Coordinator, shared a work session with Fernando Purcell Torretti, academic vice-rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Chantal Jouannet Valderrama, director of the Centre for Teaching Development, and Manuel Caire, head of Training for Public Engagement at the University of Chile. They discussed the progress made by Uniservitate and planned how to continue and strengthen the programme in its second stage.
