2023 MacJannet Prize winner: exceptional young students worldwide
University students submitted their projects for the MacJannet Award following the network values: research and community resilience, social justice and inclusion, health and wellbeing, and ethical entrepreneurship. In its long-standing record, this Award promoted by the Talloires Network of Engaged Universities honours those who best carry out their work worldwide, highlighting inspiring experiences that truly benefit their communities.
The 2023 winners are:
First Prize: Taameer, National University of Sciences and Technology (Pakistan). The project aspires to support relief, recovery, and rehabilitation during and after catastrophes like earthquakes, floods, and pandemics.
Second Prize: Beirut Urban Lab, American University of Beirut (Lebanon). It generates sustainable and inclusive urban dwellings through engaged research in urban policy and practice.
Third Prize: International Students with Disabilities Exchange Program, Makerere University (Uganda). This programme empowers students with disabilities and builds peer-to-peer connections through online dialogues and exchanges.
Honourable Mention. Ecohuerta, Camilo José Cela University (Spain). This entrepreneurial project involves the creation of a vegetable garden under the principles of organic agriculture and circular economy, maintained by an extended intergenerational and multidisciplinary community.
Honourable Mention. Kindred Kinship (NK2): Kidney Care, National University of Medical Sciences (Pakistan). The programme promotes kindness and mental health and combats social stigmas for patients impacted by kidney disease.
Honourable Mention. Proyecto COLABORAR (Project COLLABORATE), Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Chile). The mission of Proyecto COLABORAR is to strengthen the community in the territory of La Legua (San Joaquín) for the prevention of violence.
