We announce the selection for the SL Photography Contest "Stories that Transform"!
The purpose of the Contest was to recognize, survey and disseminate the service-learning projects that solidarity educational institutions throughout Latin America have been developing over the last few years, integrating the educational curriculum with the student’s solidarity activities to benefit their communities.
Sixty-eight solidarity educational institutions of all levels and modalities throughout Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay) sent their submission with full presentations of 79 service-learning experiences.
Seventeen finalists were evaluated by a jury that brought together specialists in SL and/or photography from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Peru.
The institutions awarded by the Jury are:
First Prize: School of Arts, National University of La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina) Experience: Globo Rojo [Red Balloon], Film Workshop for children. Level: University
Second Prize: UNSAM Technical High School (Buenos Aires, Argentina) Experience: Audio-Visual Laboratory Level: Secondary school
Third Prize: Catholic University of Pernambuco (Pernambuco, Brazil) Experience: Immersion in the Passarinho Community. Level: University.
- Art Critic Trans-Department Office, National University of La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina) Experience: De UNA. Workshop on evaluation and experimentation with artistic expressions. Level: University.
- Cerro Maestro Nicasio García Technical School (Montevideo, Uruguay). Experience: Proyecto Mariposas [Butterfly Project]. Level: Secondary school
- University of Monterrey (Nuevo León, México). Experience: ORENDA: Alas de Libertad [Wings of Freedom]. Level: University
The selected experiences will receive a financial reward for their work. Prizes awarded will be the following: First place, USD 1000.- (one thousand dollars); second place, USD800.- (eight hundred dollars); and third place, USD650.- (six hundred and fifty dollars). All three honourable mentions will be awarded USDS550.- (five hundred and fifty dollars).
