Solidarity youths: projects do not stop during the pandemic!

This month we share the experience of the "Sava Popovici Barcianu" Secondary School in Romania, which won first place in the Regional Service-Learning Award 2020. This project aimed at producing a brochure about the sheepfolds in the Cándrel Mountains in order to help the shepherds promote their bio products and attract more customers and tourists and also to promote the traditional way of living of these isolated small communities. The students  contacted the shepherds, gathered information, made a map and finally put all the important details in a brochure which can be used to find out about and to reach these places in the mountains not only for visiting, but also for promoting the bio products and their value. Surveys and questionnaires were used by students. They gain communication skills, teamwork and critical thinking, leadership and entrepreneurship and quality learning. Reflection activities were conducted. They communicated with local partners and promoted the products, asked for feedback, analyzed information and formulated conclusions.

Creativity, responsibility, decision making were all part of the process. The curricular objectives and actions are clearly explained and also the tools used for learning and service. lt is mentioned the fact that the students find the Service-Learning approach a motivating factor for their learning, involvement, development as persons and as future entrepreneurs.
